New to rowing?

We're excited you're interested! Read on to learn about the different pathways to experience the rewarding sport of rowing with RMRC.

  • RMRC’s Introduction to Rowing is the place to start if you have never rowed on the water before.  Please be aware that enrollment in our Introduction to Rowing (ITR) program is drawn from a waitlist and fills up quickly at the beginning of each season in March.  If you have been on the waitlist and have not been contacted directly by RMRC about ITR, you unfortunately will not be offered a spot in ITR this season.

Participants in our novice rowing programs are most typically drawn from those who have completed the ITR program. Therefore, if you have not been contacted for and enrolled in ITR, you will not have the opportunity to join the novice programs for the remainder of the  season.

However, please don't be discouraged! We have other excellent ways for you to get involved and experience rowing with RMRC. Keep reading to learn about our Open House held in the spring and the option of private rowing lessons, which are both fantastic entry points for new rowers. And remember, you can put your name on the waitlist for next season’s ITR on April 1 of the current year.

    Additional Options for New Rowers:

We understand that starting something new can be exciting and you might have questions. Here are the primary ways for individuals with no prior rowing experience to get involved with Rocky Mountain Rowing Club:

    1. The  Introduction to Rowing Program (Waitlist):

Our weekend ITR program is a popular entry point for new rowers, providing structured on-water and land-based sessions to teach you the fundamentals of rowing technique, boat handling, and safety.

As mentioned above, the  ITR program fills up quickly at the beginning of the season from the waitlist, which can be found here. Please note that you will need to sign up for the next season’s waitlist specifically; you are not carried over automatically from any previous lists.

  • A fantastic way to learn more about RMRC is by attending our Open House held in the spring (typically in May) . This is a great opportunity to:

    • Meet current members and our experienced coaches.

    • Learn about our various programs and the equipment we use.

    • Potentially try out rowing on an ergometer (indoor rowing machine).

    • Get answers to all your questions in person.

We would love to see you there!

    • The club can refer you to USRowing certified coaches who are approved to give private instruction.

    • Your private coach can explain the different membership options available should you wish to continue rowing after your initial lesson(s).

    • Email programs@rockymountainrowing.org to request a current list of approved private coaches.
