25th Annual Dillon Biathlon
The 25th Annual Dillon Biathlon:
Information on the 2010 Biathlon is available now. The race will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2010.
This is an informal row/bike/row that occurs on and around Lake Dillon
in Frisco, Colorado. The rowing course can vary from year to year, the
bike course around the lake stays pretty much the same. The information below details the 2009 race.We will update with 2010 course info when we have it.
Note: There will be no trailer for this event; car-topped singles only.
The course this year is planned to start at the Frisco Marina on the water at 8am. The format is Row/Bike/Row.
Leg
1 - (Est 3-3.5 miles) Row starts at the Frisco Marina, on the water.
The row will go from the Frisco Marina out about 1.5 miles with a
starboard turn around Crown Point and then a straight 2 mile shot to the
Blue River
Inlet (Towards Breckenrige). Here you will put your boat in slings and transition to the bike.
Leg
2 - (18 miles) The bike will head out to Hwy 9 and proceed clockwise
around Lake Dillon. Hwy 9 to Frisco, through Frisco to the dam road,
after the dam road down the hill turn right onto Hwy 6 around to Swan
Mtn Rd, once down from Swan Mt Rd you are at the row transition.
Leg 3 - (Est 3-3.5 miles) Off the bike and back into the boat back to the Frisco Marina.
Logistics;
The
row/bike transition at the Blue River Inlet, the road is just off Hwy 9
to Breck at the light by Swan Mtn Rd by the sewage plant, there is a
long gravel road going out into the reservoir , you will need to have
slings for
your boat and your bike there by 7am to get back the
Frisco Marina for a 8am start. I would lock your bike along side your
slings. We may or may not have someone there to watch them, any
volunteers??
*We need to start by 8am to avoid the winds that come
up around 10:30-11am. Launch at the Frisco Marina, the Frisco Bay
Rowing people do not want us using their docks so we will be beach
launching. If you think that it might take you longer than 2 hours to complete the course, then starting by 7:30 is advisable
Comments;
This is not so much a race as it is an event/workout/accomplishment.
Safety
is the key issue, the water is deep, cold and big, do not row a single
if you are not proficient. The bike is all on the roads and the
onlybike path is across the dam road, obey all traffic laws, no
drafting. The course is easier than the directions sound.
I have booked a room at the Snowshoe Motel for $79, very simple place and it is there in Frisco (800) 445-8658
Any questions, please email me. Day of, I plan on being up there in the afternoon with cell phone on.
Thanks, Mike Gasper
